Looking back on the past 50 years
Happy new years to all. On January 12th, 2023, our company celebrated its 50th year anniversary. When the company was first founded, we were in the red but have been profitable each fiscal year since. Last year, we have maintained to increase revenue and profit, despite a series of unpredictable events, such as the Corona virus, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and a record level in depreciation of the Japanese Yen. As a global trading company that mainly deals in perishable products, we have been affected by these events to no small extent, but we were able to overcome these difficulties by developing unique commercial products and by the cooperation of our employees and business partners. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone.
Over the past 50 years, our business has gone through a period of growth. I expect that the next half century will present many more challenges and we may face difficult situations. However, I am not pessimistic. I believe that if we maintain our corporate culture of boldly taking on new challenges, with a flexible mindset and new ideas, and abide by our corporate philosophy of Sampo Yoshi (which means; good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for the society), we will continue to be supported by the society.
In addition, we are of course obliged to fulfil our responsibility to achieve a sustainable society, an issue which has attracted more and more attention in recent years. We have put together a SDGs team within the company and are working towards achieving the goals set for 2030. In these uncertain times, of economic uncertainty and international political turmoil, by utilizing our knowledge and experience, we will continue to be strong and keep to our beliefs, and continue to take on new challenges.
